OTTAWA – Though the state unemployment rate went down, statewide, it increased, slightly, for the local area. The Illinois Department of Employment Security says the unemployment rate in May was 4.7 percent for LaSalle County, 3.8 for Bureau County, and 4.3 percent for Putnam. Those figures are one to two tenths of a percentage point higher in May than the April numbers, but are still slightly less than the unemployment rate was a year ago. Statewide, however, unemployment was 3.6 percent in May, compared to 3.7 percent in April.
