OGLESBY – The Illinois Valley Society for Human Resource Management (IVSHRM) has established a scholarship with the Illinois Valley Community College Foundation for IVCC sophomores pursuing a career in human resources.

The Illinois Valley SHRM Future Human Resources Leader Scholarship will be aimed at assisting students living in-district who’ve obtained at least a 3.0 GPA and have demonstrated an interest in human resources in ways such as membership in SHRM, volunteerism or work experience in HR or attendance at an HR workshop.

NAF Axles North America of Morris matched the chapter’s $500 contribution to enable the first award to be a minimum of $1,000 next fall.  The chapter is already actively seeking and receiving donations to grow the fund which may allow for larger grants, and/or more than one annual student award, in the future.

Illinois Valley SHRM President Heather Hammitt of Spring Valley praised NAF.

“NAF Axles North America has long supported the mission of Illinois Valley SHRM, and we couldn’t be more pleased to partner with them on our inaugural scholarship,” Hammitt said.

“Many of us, myself included, are graduates of IVCC, and we understand the critical role it plays not only in developing future leaders but also in helping make the Illinois Valley more attractive to current and prospective employers,” she said.

“Behind every successful business in our community is a top-notch workforce, and strong human resource leaders help make that happen.”

The chapter, which currently has over 70 members, welcomes HR and non-HR professionals from all industries, experience levels and backgrounds.

“Whether you are new to HR or have many years of experience, we are a local starting point for networking, information, professional development and continued support of excellence in human resources,” Hammitt said.
