Arrest Made in Fatal Expressway Shooting

CHICAGO –  Illinois State Police officials announced the arrest of a suspect involved in a fatal expressway shooting in Chicago. According to the Illinois State Police on July 27th, just before noon, ISP Troopers located a white Mercedes Benz northbound on the Dan Ryan near 31st street. Authorities say that a deceased male was reportedly found inside of the vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. Officials say that the deceased person was later identified as 24-year-old Shaquille E. Dirkans of Markham. The ISP ensued an investigation and revealed that there were allegedly four male occupants inside of the vehicle at the time of the shooting. Authorities say that the vehicle was then involved in a single unit crash before coming to a stop on the I-55 southbound entrance ramp from I-94. after the crash the occupants reportedly left the scene and were later located. Police say the shooting suspect was identified at 26-year-old Deonte Young of Chicago. Young was taken into custody by the ISP on Wednesday, December 6th. He was charged with first degree murder by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Young is being held without bond.
