MENDOTA – At least four buildings are a total loss after a large fire in downtown Mendota Thursday night. Around 9 PM firefighters were called to the 700 block of Illlinois Ave for a fire that eventually spread to adjacent buildings. After midnight, an excavator was brought in to demolish portions of buildings to slow the spread of the blaze. Mendota Fire Chief Dennis Rutishauser said that no injuries were reported, but Illinois Ave may be closed for some time.
