California Pair Arrested in Drug Bust on Train

GALESBURG – Two California residents are in jail after allegedly transporting drugs on an Amtrak train Thursday.  According to the Knox County Sheriff’s Department they were notified of passengers acting suspicious on the California Zephyr at the Galesburg train station.  An investigation began and they took 52 year-old Vanessa Winston and 35 year-old Daisy C. Lugo, both of Bakersfield, California into custody.  Authorities charged both with possession of a controlled substance and other trafficking charges.   Knox County detectives recovered what they say is nearly 10 lbs of purported heroin.   Both are being held at the Knox County Jail on $1,000,000 bond.  Assisting in the investigation were the Amtrak Police, Princeton Police Department and the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Narcotic’s Team.
