STREATOR – The two individuals who led what authorities say was a manhunt that lasted over 8 hours Monday in rural Streator have had formal charges filed against them. The LaSalle County Sheriff’s Office said that 29-year-old Leroy E. Persinger of Streator has been charged with Theft over $300, criminal damage to property, burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, aggravated battery and resisting a peace officer. His bond was set at $75,000. The person who allegedly was with Persinger, 51-year-old Nancy M. Newell of Streator, was charged with burglary and resisting a peace officer. Her bond was set at $50,000. Ottawa Police say that a vehicle reportedly stolen by Persinger also led to the discovery of a revolver. Both are still being held at the LaSalle County Jail.
Sheriff Tom Templeton said that “All of the agencies involved are to be commended for their performance during this incident.”
The Sheriff’s Office stated that these arrests are part of a multi-agency investigation into burglaries, thefts and stolen vehicles that have occurred in LaSalle County, and that further charges could be coming.
