MENDOTA – The city of Mendota and various departments are making plans to combat the COVID-19 pandemic. Monday night the city council is expected to discuss an ordinance authorizing the mayor to declare a state of emergency should the need arise and allow for contracts to be authorized to resolve any emergency situations. The Fire and Police departments said they are monitoring the situation and will be trying to limit their contact with anyone that fits into a high-risk category. The water department said they will not be going into homes to work on meters unless absolutely necessary. Fire Chief Dennis Rutishauser reminds residents to stay home if they are sick, avoid large crowds, and to wash their hands frequently.
