Coal City Woman Dies After Piece of Truck Strikes Car

LOCKPORT – State Police in Lockport say a women was killed when a truck’s brake drum came flying through her windshield.  According to police, the accident happened on I-80 in Will County shortly after 2 pm yesterday.  Police say a tractor trailer truck’s wheel hub came detached from it’s rear tractor axle, and the brake drum crossed into the westbound lanes, and entered the windshield of a car striking the driver.  The driver, 38 year old Melinda Cullen, of Coal City, was taken to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The truck driver was identified of 59 year old Antanas Sereiva, of Bolingbrook.  Police say Sereiva was cited with a Federal Motor Carrier Safety Act violation for Unsafe Equipment.
