Colder temperatures and winter blast on the way

OTTAWA – A weekend snowstorm could impact the area late Friday through Saturday, with accumulations of up to 5″ of snow possible. The National Weather Service says a wintry mix of freezing rain and snow late this afternoon will pass through north central Illinois pushed by a cold air mass that could lead to wind chills near 20 below zero Saturday night. There is also the potential for blowing and drifting snow through the remainder of the weekend and potentially hazardous road conditions.  A winter weather advisory begins Friday at 2 PM and continues through 6 AM Saturday.
