District 17 State Police warn of Trooper phone scam

File Photo Studstill Media

LASALLE – The Illinois State Police District 17 in LaSalle are warning residents about another phone scam that is attempting to separate you from your personal information or money. They say that a resident in Kane County was targeted by someone claiming to be a member of law enforcement during an unsolicited phone call. During the conversation, they demanded personal information and some form of payment to avoid some legal action. The Illinois State Police say they would typically collect personal information in person and would never demand or take payment in the form of a gift card over the phone. They say if you have any questions about any interaction with law enforcement via phone, that you should call the district or station and ask to speak to that person directly.
