July 21, 2018

WATERMAN—A parade of antique tractors and trucks, with special guest announcers farm broadcaster Max Armstrong and DeKalb County Farm Bureau President Mark Tuttle, will highlight the Waterman Lions Club’s Summer Fest and Antique Tractor and Truck Show at noon on Sat., July 21, at Lions Park in Waterman.

The day-long event is located at 420 S. Birch St., just south of US 30 (Lincoln Hwy.). It is about 12 miles south of DeKalb and 25 miles west of Aurora. The festival brings together owners of antique tractors and trucks, crafters and flea market concessionaires along with civic organizations with booths promoting their activities. There is no admission fee.

New this year is the first-ever Soybean Adventure, hosted by the Waterman/Shabbona Business Association (WSBA) in partnership with Waterman Lions Club. It will run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Lions Park as part of the festival. WSBA President Terrie Tuntland said the organization would like to make the area the soybean capital of Illinois.

Other activities begin at 7:00 a.m. with breakfast served by United Neighborhood Center. Then, at 10:00 a.m. the Tractor Pull begins. It, too, is conducted by the United Neighborhood Center. Also, scheduled to begin at that time are Waterman and Western Railroad Train rides, hay rides, petting zoo, and model airplane demonstrations.

Clinton Twp. Library will feature a kids’ show, “Kevin & The Infinite Possibilities,” at the gazebo at 11:00 a.m. and Cowboy Quick Draw will also start at that time. The Pedal Pull for adults and kids will be at 2:00 p.m. It is a miniature tractor pull using pedal powered tractors. Waterman Summer Recreation will sponsor a bags tournament starting at 3:00 p.m.

The beer garden opens at three o’clock along with live music by “The Beaux”. More live music is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. with “The Relics” and at 8:00 p.m. with “Snapshot”. The Waterman Fire Department will host a pork chop barbecue between 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Results of the Lions Draw Down Raffle, the 50/50 raffle and tractor and truck show awards will be announced at 5:00 p.m.

Weather permitting, ReMax will sponsor hot air tethered balloon rides starting at 7:30 p.m. The day’s activities will include a fireworks show at dusk. The beer garden and live music wrap up at 11:30 p.m.
