Families Belong Together Movement in Ottawa

Taken by Charles Edward Miller

OTTAWA – A Rally to demand a halt to the child-separation policy the Trump Administration practices on immigrant families, will be held in Ottawa Saturday.
The protest is scheduled to begin at 2PM on the 100th block of Main Street. Speakers include Rockford immigration attorney Sara Dady, local sociologist and organizer Jared Olesen, and LaSalle County Democratic Central Committee Chair, Dani Brzozowski.

The Families Belong Together Movement is a Series of more than 600 rallies across the United States. The Washington D.C. rally and cities around the country are protesting the indefinite detention of immigrant families. Brzozowski says that the committee does not have a lengthy history of demonstrations of activism in LaSalle County, however because of the community’s outrage towards the issue, she believe’s this opportunity is important. “I think we have this assumption to think these issues effect only liberal metropolis’,” she said. “We need to give people in LaSalle County and throughout the Illinois Vally and Starved Rock regions an opportunity to demonstrate especially where we have strong pockets of Central American Immigrants.”

The event is family-friendly and parents are encouraged to bring their children, as well as signs and posters.
