LASALLE – Farmers are experiencing the effects of the government shutdown, through vital departments like the USDA. According to LaSalle County’s Farm Bureau President David Isermann, various loan and compensations programs for farmers are now inaccessible. Isermann says specialty loan programs by the FDA, and compensation programs to assist with Chinese tariffs and falling prices on soybeans have been on hold because of absent personnel. Farmers have also made due without their grain reports, information thats necessary for grain trade and future projections. Isermann says the shutdown is leaving farmers with uncertainty.
