STREATOR – Three Chicago area residents facing felony murder charges after the shooting death Tuesday of a Streator woman. According to the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office, 24-year-old Hashim S. Waite and 21-year-old Ashanti D. Roberts are in the LaSalle County Jail. A 16-year-old from Dolton, Tamil DC Adams appeared in court this afternoon, and due to the nature of the charges will be tried as an adult.   All three are being held on $2 Million Dollars bond.  According to Streator Police Chief Kurt Pastirik, before 9 PM Tuesday they were called to the 200 block of West 9th Street for shots fired where 33-year-old Maria M De la Torre was struck twice in the chest and later died.
In court, the States Attorney reiterated a statement from Roberts that she reportedly drove Waite and Adams to Streator, where they allegedly discussed a robbery and indicated that they were armed during the ride. They arrived at 9th Street and exited the vehicle.   Around 8:45 Waite and Roberts purportedly exited a residence and gunfire was heard.  De  La Torre was a passenger exiting her vehicle when she was struck in the chest with at least two shots.  A juvenile eyewitness stated he had fled into the woods.   There was no indication that the deceased was the intended victim and the investigation is ongoing.   LaSalle County State’s Attorney Karen Donnelly praised Livingston County Sheriff’s Deputy Emily Anderson for spotting and pursuing the suspect vehicle.   All three are scheduled to return to court June 8th.
