PONTIAC – The Livingston County Health Department received the first doses of the new COVID-19 vaccine on Wednesday from Moderna. Phase 1A of vaccine distribution is now underway, making sure the vaccine is available for healthcare providers and EMS workers. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorized the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine last Friday, becoming the second option available after the approval of the Pfizer vaccine earlier this month.  On December 23, the day the first doses were received, 54 eligible Livingston County residents received the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at the LCHD.

“We are very excited to begin the vaccination process in Livingston County,” said Jackie Dever, LCHD Administrator. “We still have a long road ahead of us and it is essential the residents continue to be vigilant in taking action to prevent the spread of COVID-19; but, the arrival of the vaccine gives us hope for better days ahead in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.”
