Five injured after two vehicle crash in Putnam County

SPRING VALLEY – Five people were injured after a two vehicle crash Monday in Putnam County.  According to the Illinois State Police they were called to Illinois Route 89 near North 850th Road around 11:45 PM for a collision.  Authorities say a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old Peru man with three passengers was traveling east on North 850th Road when he allegedly failed to stop at the intersection with Route 89, and was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound.  The driver of the southbound vehicle, a 32-year-old Varna man, was injured in the crash and taken to an area hospital.  The driver and three occupants of the other vehicle were also all injured in the crash and hospitalized.  The incident is still under investigation by the Illinois State Police.
