Flooding Closes Roads; Schools


 
OTTAWA – Ottawa High School and Woodland School will be closed on Thursday due to a number of roads near the campus closed due to flooding. Other area roads, like Sandy Cosgrove Road in Peru Township, developed a sink hole and was closed due to washing out. Bottom Road, south of the Illinois River in LaSalle and Putnam County was closed due to the rising waters, as was Ben Samek Road.  Dee Bennett Road will be closed from Naplate to Illinois Route 178 in Utica beginning Wednesday night. Water will be across the pavement at several locations overnight including the intersection of Dee Bennett and Koenig Road.   Water Street in Peru was closed from Plain Street to the Electrical Plant, but businesses can still be reached using Putnam Street. In Livingston County, IL Route 17 was closed west of IL 23 at the railroad viaduct due to flooding. Officials warn anyone traveling to be aware of water on the roadways, and when in doubt, turn around, don’t drown.
The City of Ottawa listed numerous closed roads and parks, including: Green Street Allen Park, Champlain Street at aqueduct, Fox River Park, East Main Park is closed at Main Street, Riverwalk, Albin Stephen’s Drive, Hudson Street, St. George Street
