CHICAGO – As winter wanes gas prices remain higher than the pandemic influenced price from a year ago according to the American Automobile Association. LaSalle County averaged $2.80 per gallon, lower than both Bureau and Putnam County who came in around a nickel higher. Statewide the average is $2.88 per gallon, 13 cents higher than the national average. Gas prices are around 30 cents higher than March of 2020. Winter weather that gripped the midwest and south in the last week of February contributed to the rise.
“When close to 40% of U.S. crude production is offline because refineries are closed, there is going to be pain at the pump until operations resume,” said Jeanette Casselano McGee, AAA spokesperson.
