CHICAGO- Governor J.B. Pritzker on Friday announced new IDPH guidelines and emergency rules to enforce the rules of mass gatherings and face coverings for businesses. Businesses who fail to enforce mask rules for employees will now face warnings and fines if local authorities find they are not compliant with the state mask mandate that was put into place May 1st. A group of industry and state leaders were with the Governor when he made his announcement. Illinois reported nearly 2000 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday, a number of infections not seen since late May.
According to the wording of the order, businesses will be given a written warning and encouraged to voluntarily comply with the mandate.  If a business does not, they will be given an order to have some or all customers leave the premises until they comply, and if the business till refuses, fines could be enacted up to $2,500.
