High demand, supply reduction, causes gas price inflation

CHICAGO – An increase in gas demand, alongside a reduction in total supply, is contributing to a spike in gas prices according to the American Automobile Association. Statewide, Illinois is experiencing a significant increase in prices, averaging 30 cents more per gallon compared to prices two weeks ago. Locally, Putnam County holds the least expensive gas prices around at $3.79 cents per gallon, still up nearly 40 cents compared to last month. Bureau County is second most expensive at $3.88 cents per gallon and LaSalle County is nearly averaging $4.00 per gallon. The AAA says increasing oil prices continue to play a leading role in pushing prices higher. Pump prices will likely continue to rise as crude prices continue to climb.
