PRINCETON – A highway worker is dead after a crash in a construction zone on Interstate 80 on Wednesday. The Illinois State Police say that around 10 AM they were called to the westbound lanes in Bureau County for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle. Authorities say that 84-year-old Robert D. Bowen of Macomb was traveling west near mile marker 44, when for unknown reasons his van struck a 47-year-old man from Chicago. The worker, who was standing outside of his truck that was equipped with an arrow board, was pronounced dead at the scene. The Illinois State Police say Bowen was taken to an area hospital for non-life threatening injuries. He was cited for failure to yield but additional charges may be pending.
