SPRINGFIELD – A bill circulating in the General Assembly would set limits to the number of patients nurses can see. Some of the requirements of The Safe Patient Limit Act are that patient assignment to those in intensive care is two per nurse, one per nurse for triage patients and three per nurse for pediatrics. It also required that no registered nurse be assigned to a nursing unit or clinical area unless demonstrating competence in providing care. The house bill sponsored by Representative Fred Crespo is scheduled for a second reading and short debate.
