Human Case of West Nile Found

OTTAWA – LaSalle County Health Department has confirmed its first case of West Nile Virus since last year. According to a media release, a resident in their 60’s has also tested positive for the virus this month, along with mosquitoes and birds from this summer. According to the director of Environmental Health Chris Pozzi, it isn’t surprising to see a case so late in the year with the extended warmer weather we’ve been having. He says the best way to avoid getting West Nile Virus is to wear insect repellent and rid the outside of your home from standing water to reduce the amount of mosquitoes present.
