Illinois Covid Cases Jump Since Last Weekend

SPRINGFIELD – Another troubling report from the Illinois Department of Public Health on Sunday.  The state says 954 have contracted Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, a more than 50 percent jump from Sunday a week ago. Also, 20 people have died from Coronavirus, 14 more than last Sunday, though still less than the peak days in April and May.  However, cases have been trending up in Illinois since reaching a low in late June.
The number of tests completed Sunday of nearly 39,000 is an all time high for the state.  Our local region, North Central, which includes Rockford, Quad Cities, Peoria and Bloomington, has seen an increase in hospital admissions, according to the state.  A 4% increase in hospital admissions is more in line with being in Phase 3 in reopening, according to the state.  That would be a downgrade from our present phase 4 reopening status.
