Illinois widens test eligibility as virus deaths pass 4,000 Friday

CHICAGO (AP) — Illinois officials say an additional 130 people have died of the coronavirus, bringing the state’s toll from the virus to 4,058. Gov. J.B. Pritzker on Friday announced that people working essential jobs can now get tested whether or not they show symptoms of COVID-19. Pritzker says the state has been able to conduct at least 11,000 tests daily since April 24. He says that total has nearly doubled in recent days, allowing tests for anyone with symptoms or working an essential job under the statewide stay-at-home order. Anyone exposed to a confirmed COVID-19 patient also can get tested.
