PERU – A small section of the new artificial turf was damaged at the LaSalle-Peru High School football field and a reward is being offered for the apprehension of those responsible.  The Peru Police Department say around 5:30 AM Saturday they were called to Howard Fellows Stadium, where it was discovered that what is being described as a Molotov Cocktail was burning on the field.  The fire was quickly extinguished, however, the police have no suspects in custody.

A reward of $1,500 is being offered to anyone providing information that leads to the identification of the offender(s) in the case. LPHS Superintendent Dr. Steven Wrobleski and his wife Kristin, Peru Mayor Scott Harl and his wife Barb, and Mike and Maria Rosploch are donating their own private funds to pay for the reward.

“I am sad and angry that someone or some individuals would think this criminal act funny. This type of behavior has no place in our community. I am hopeful those involved will be identified and held accountable for their actions,” Dr. Wrobleski said.

Mayor Harl added, “Howard Fellows Stadium is truly a gem of the Illinois Valley and one that makes all of us in the LPHS community proud. I hope this reward offer can help bring the investigation to a successful resolution.”

Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Peru Police Department.
