SPRINGFIELD – The latest report from the Illinois State Police show that the backlog of biology and DNA forensic testing has continued to be reduced after reforms were put into place.  Even with an increase of 9% in analysis needs, the backlog is down 30% from 2019.  Additional staff and new procedures are expected to help improve the speed and efficiency of the Division of Forensic Services.   The ISP expect eight new Biology Forensic Scientist Trainees to complete training by early 2022.
