OTTAWA – The Johnson family of Ottawa recently made a $2,000 donation to the Illinois Valley Community College Foundation.

Gayle and Jeremy Johnson both graduated from IVCC in the early 2000s before transferring to Illinois State University. They are owners of JJ’s Pub in Ottawa and Gayle teaches at Lincoln Elementary School in Ottawa.

They were joined in the donation by Jeremy’s uncle Larry Johnson. After serving in Vietnam, Larry attended IVCC in the early 1970s on the GI Bill before transferring to Illinois Wesleyan University. He also played and coached football at IVCC.

Jeremy Johnson said, “I recommend IVCC to everyone considering college.”

IVCC President Jerry Corcoran lauded the Johnsons’ financial support and advocacy.

“Larry has a close, 45-plus-year association with IVCC and Jeremy and Gayle also enjoy a rewarding connection with our college,” Corcoran said. “This generous gift will aid our Foundation’s mission of providing greater access to an IVCC education.

“It’s always gratifying to hear IVCC graduates like the Johnsons talk about the wonderful experiences they had while at IVCC and how our faculty and staff touched their lives.”
