MAZON – A Joliet teen is in custody after a Grundy County deputy was shot during a traffic stop Thursday.  The incident occurred on IL Route 47 near Mazon.  Authorities say the deputy initiated a traffic stop when the vehicle allegedly fled from the scene and crashed into other vehicles before the driver fled. During the foot pursuit the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Demarcus T. Denwiddie, allegedly fired multiple gun shots, striking the deputy. The Mazon Fire Chief Mark Brookman helped stabilize the deputy, who had been bleeding from the arm, while Grundy County and other police agencies pursued Denwiddie.  The deputy is reportedly in stable condition.  Denwiddie was taken into custody in an apartment building in Mazon and transported to an area hospital for a reported gunshot wound.
