Labor Day weekend gas prices cheapest in 3 years

CHICAGO – The national gas price is the cheapest Labor Day weekend average in three years, and local gas prices have dropped appreciably. According to the American Automobile Association, those who bookend Labor Day weekend road trips can find gas prices that are cheaper than this past Memorial Day and last year’s Labor Day Holiday. Local county gas prices have dropped 25 cents or more. After Putnam County took the lead last month in most expensive local gas prices, it’s now the cheapest around, at $2.53 per gallon, a 42 cent decrease. LaSalle County’s averages are 25 cents cheaper, at $2.55, compared to 2.80 last month. Bureau County’s averages are the priciest, at $ 2.64 still a significant decrease, from $2.90 per gallon in July.
