OTTAWA – A LaSalle man accused of murdering his infant son will face a jury trial in June. 24-year-old Kenneth Herbst is charged with first-degree murder for the April 2019 incident in LaSalle, where he reportedly suffocated his 2-month-old son with a pillow. On Friday at the LaSalle County Courthouse, a pre-trial date of June 11th and jury trial date of June 14th at 10 a.m. was set. In a previous hearing, a judge ruled to allow the LaSalle County State’s Attorney’s Office to bring in evidence that they say claims prior abuse to the infant. The state’s attorneys will argue that the prior incident involving the child shows a pattern of abuse, motive, and intent.
