LaSalle man accused of smothering infant son expected to stand trial this spring

OTTAWA – A murder case involving a LaSalle man, who is accused of smothering his infant son, drags on nearly two years since the alleged crime. An evidentiary hearing is expected to be held on February 26th, after Herbst appeared before a LaSalle County judge on Friday. Herbst is charged with first-degree murder for the April 2019 incident in LaSalle, where he allegedly suffocated his 2-month-old son with a pillow. A late April date was previously set for the trial, however, could be delayed depending on the February hearing. Herbst is being held at the LaSalle County Jail.
