Lee County Residents Escape Thursday Morning Fire

AMBOY – Two residents of a home in rural Lee County Northeast of Amboy escaped injury Thursday morning after a fire heavily damaged their home. According to the Amboy Fire Department, they were called to the scene around 6:30 AM to the home and when they arrived they discovered flames already showing throughout the second story. Multiple area departments responded including Dixon City, Rock Falls, Sublette, Harmon, Franklin Grove West Brooklyn and Lamoille. It took two hours for firefighters to knock down the flames, however, the home suffered water and fire damage throughout. The homeowners, Les and Betty Shaw, have been members of Amboy Fire and Blackhawk Firefighters Assocation for over 20 years. The Amboy Volunteer Firemen Assocation has set up a bank account at the First National Bank in Amboy under Les & Betty Shaw Fire Account. Also, donations can be mailed to Amboy Firemen/ Shaw Fire Account, PO Box 165, Amboy Il 61310. Donations of personal or household cleaning supplies can be dropped off at Dinges Fire Company, 243 E Main Street in Amboy.
