SPRINGFIELD – Privately made guns with no serial numbers are now banned in Illinois. Governor Pritzker signed the legislation earlier this week. So called ‘Ghost Guns’ cannot be traced by conventional means and can be created on a 3-D printer, leaving no record of their ownership. Authorities say ghost guns are cheaper and easier to acquire than conventional firearms and they are more accessible to young people. Already this month at least two Illinois teenagers were charged with possession of ghost guns, including one case where a loaded gun was brought to a high school. Unserialized firearms created and sold by individuals were involved in over 20,000 suspected crimes last year nationwide.
