OTTAWA – Local unemployment rates are down this month and statewide numbers remain the same. According to the Illinois Department of Employment Security, statewide unemployment rates are steady at 4.4 percent, but local county rates have decreased by nearly 2 percent. Putnam County experienced the largest decrease down to 5.4 percent, compared to 7.3 percent last month. Bureau County unemployment rates are the lowest locally, at 4.8, a percent and a half decrease. LaSalle County has the highest unemployment rates locally at 5.7 percent, compared to 7.3 percent in April.
