MENDOTA –  Mendota Police Department took a report regarding the use of a fake $100 bill. The bills are made by “washing” $10 bills and reprinting them as $100 bills. There are two really easy and quick ways to detect these types of counterfeit bills.
1. Hold a bill up to a light and look for a holograph of the face image on the bill. Both images should match.
2. Looking at the bill through a light will also reveal a thin vertical strip containing text that spells out the bill’s denomination.
We ask everyone to take their time when receiving any currency and check the bills carefully. If you think someone is trying to pass a counterfeit bill, call 911 and report it.
