Mendota Police Release Statement on Sweet Corn Festival Threat

MENDOTA- The Mendota Police Department announced Thursday that they have investigated a purported threat on social media by a 17-year-old allegedly targeting this weekends Mendota Sweet Corn Festival.   The teen, who was residing in the Chicago area, is being sought by multiple agencies, including the FBI and Chicago Police Counter Terrorism Unit.  

On Friday Mendota Police notes that the incident the previous week on Jefferson Street involving the discharge of a firearm is unrelated to this case.

The Mendota Police wishes to thank the community for making them aware of the threat, and they wish all visitors a great weekend at the 72nd Annual Sweet Corn Festival.
