Near record floodwaters recede across Illinois Valley

OTTAWA – The quickly rising Illinois River came close to being the worst flood of all time in some spots, being just shy of the record in many locations.   In Ottawa, which saw a dramatic rescue of a loose boat along the Main Street Bridge on the Fox River and a loose barge striking Veterans Bridge, saw the second highest floodwaters of all time, coming in just under a foot of the 2013 record.  In LaSalle, the river crested at the third highest of all time, more than a foot below the previous high water mark.  Waters are continuing to recede, but many area roadways are still flooded.
