New Divisional Leadership Announced for OSF Children’s Hospital and UICOMP

PEORIA – OSF HealthCare Children’s Hospital of Illinois and The University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria are pleased to announce new leadership for the divisions of Neonatology and Pediatric Cardiology. After a national search, M. Jawad Javed, MD has been appointed Division Head of Neonatology and Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois in Peoria. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a 64-bed, private-room unit with a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit – the highest state designation – and a Level II Intermediate Care Unit. The most advanced care is provided to premature and high-risk infants from throughout the state of Illinois.

Including Dr. Javed, there are nine neonatologists and 16 Advanced Practice Nurse providers on the team he will lead. Dr. Javed is Fellowship-trained in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine and is board certified in Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine and Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics. After a national search, Marc D. Knepp, MD has been appointed Division Head of Pediatric Cardiology and CoDirector of the Congenital Heart Center at OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois. The Congenital Heart Center at OSF Children’s Hospital of Illinois is the only comprehensive congenital heart program outside of Chicago with more than 9,000 clinic visits and about 250 cardiac surgeries performed each year.
Dr. Knepp is Fellowship-trained in Adult Congenital Cardiology and Pediatric Cardiology. He is Board certified in Pediatric Cardiology, Pediatrics, Internal Medicine, and Adult Congenital Heart Disease (one of the first in the U.S. to receive that certification). Dr. Knepp is also medical director of the Adult Congenital Heart Program. He serves as co-director of the Congenital Heart Center at OSF Children’s Hospital with Dr. Mark Plunkett, congenital cardiac surgeon
