One person dead, one charged in Sunday night Dekalb shooting

DEKALB – An Aurora woman faces multiple charges in connection to a shooting that left one person dead. 28-year-old Vanity Garcia is charged with concealment of a homicidal death and aggravated fleeing to elude after a deadly shooting and high speed police chase on Sunday night. According to the Dekalb Police Department, just before midnight, they responded to the 900 block of west Hillcrest Drive for a report of gunfire. Upon arrival police say, a suspicious vehicle fled the area. Officers eventually stopped the vehicle that held three subjects, two of them found to have multiple gunshot wounds. According to police, 29-year-old Jeffrey L. Carson of Naperville was pronounced dead. The investigation revealed that two residents of Hillcrest Drive were returning home when they were allegedly confronted by two men reportedly brandishing firearms and demanding money. Police say the suspects attempted to restrain both victims, but during a struggle, multiple shots were fired. The victim and one suspect remain hospitalized. Additional charges and arrests are pending further investigation.
