Ottawa Firefighters purchase automatic CPR machine

Photo Ottawa Fire Department

OTTAWA – The Ottawa Fire Department has received an automatic CPR machine paid for with funds from the firefighters union.  Local 523 voted to approve the purchase of a Lucas Device, which performs automatic compressions at a specified rate during CPR.   The hands free device allows first responders to better focus on other life saving measures and hopefully better outcomes for those in need.  Since being put into service last month, they say they have already used it to save two lives on calls.   Local 523 allocates funds specifically for the betterment of the fire department, including purchasing equipment, improving living quarters, uniforms and more.
