Ottawa residents standing up against city’s used car ta

OTTAWA – Community members in the city of Ottawa plan to petition the used car tax. Denetta Flamingo, who addressed council members about the .5% tax on titled vehicles, Tuesday night, says she’s hoping to get a referendum on the ballot. 989 registered voters in the city of Ottawa will have to sign the petition before taking it to the county to place on the ballot for the March primary. According to community members at Tuesday’s council meeting, the tax came just after Christmas and were given 30 days to pay. Flamingo says much of our community wasn’t aware of the dormant ordinance, especially the younger generation. She says the city needs to know they can’t do a money grab from the community without having resistance.
