Pair From California Picked Up With Suspected Meth in Bureau County

PRINCETON – A traffic stop last Friday ended with a pair from California in custody and the discovery of nearly thirty pounds of potential narcotics or other drugs. In a press release by Tri-Dent today, they say that officers initiated a stop on a vehicle with Nevada plates near mile marker 59 on Interstate 80. During a free-air search by a K9 Officer, the presence of purported narcotics was detected and a full search of the vehicle was initiated. Inside the vehicle they discovered a backpack filled with reportedly eleven pounds of purported methamphetamines and another bag containing heavily wrapped as yet unidentified substances weighing over seventeen pounds. The substances were wrapped in what agents described as multiple layers of plastic, carbon paper and soap, and are reportedly methods used to avoid detection at border crossings according to Tri-Dent. The as yet unidentified materials discovered were sent to the Illinois State Police Crime Lab for identification. Taken into custody was 41-year-old Fernado Osuna Montoya and 43-year-old Dominga Diaz Avendano of San Diego, California. Both were taken to the Bureau County Jail and are being held on one million dollars bond.
