PAW PAW – Paw Paw village President Michael Torman traveled to California to participate in a taping in February of the game show Jeopardy.   The program aired Wednesday, where the Lee County man came up short during final Jeopardy of winning the game.

Torman said he didn’t know he had made the cut to appear on the show after an interview in August.  “You don’t know if you make it through” he said Wednesday, “but I thought I nailed the audition.”

Host Alex Trebek announced in the weeks prior to the taping his ongoing health struggles, but Torman said the host was still pretty sharp.

“He seemed to be moving a little slow but his wit and the way he interacts with people is still a marvel.”

Going into final Jeopardy the funeral director from Paw Paw had accrued $9,800, trailing the leader with $15,200.

The final Jeopardy question was “In 2014 this democratic nation broke the record for total turnout in a single election with more than 500 million voters”.

Torman knew the correct response , “What is India?”, but fell short in dollar total to Canadian winner Sharon Lawson.

Due to the time between the taping and the broadcast, he was not allowed to reveal what had happened on the show, although he wasn’t alone, as his wife and brother were in attendance.

Torman got 13 correct out of the 15 times he buzzed in and did win prizes for his second place effort, including a tote bag, a hat and $2000.
