Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office

POINTE-AUX-CHENES – A Pekin, Illinois man has died after a mishap at a dock involving an ice chest in Louisiana. The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said that on Monday afternoon 70-year-old Johnny Martin was a passenger on a small boat when they attempted to offload a 50-quart container that held fish caught earlier in the day. According to witness statements the boat drifted away from the dock and both Martin and the ice chest fell into the water, with Martin reportedly striking his head. CPR was begun as soon as he was removed from the water. The Terrebonne Parish Coroner advised deputies that the death was due to natural causes, pending receipt of a toxicology report.
