PERU – Peru City alderman discussed how the city can move forward safely at Monday’s city council meeting. As Governor Pritzker’s stay-at-home order is set to extend throughout the month of May, Fourth Ward Alderman Aaron Buffo expressed the need to look to open Peru safely for the sake of small businesses. He and other aldermen argued that residents are suffering financially from the order, as well as mentally from not being able to leave their houses. Attorney Scott Schweickert said he understands Buffo’s point, however the city needs to think of the legal ramifications of circumventing the governor, especially if someone from the city should get sick.
