PERU – The city of Peru is slated to discuss the appointment of a new police chief at their next city council meeting. According to the agenda, a motion is listed to approve Mayor Ken Kolowski’s choice of Deputy Police Chief Bob Pyszka as chief of police, effective on the first of September. Current Police Chief Doug Bernabei has served the city of Peru since 2006. In 1981, at the age of 20, Bernabei was sworn in as a Spring Valley officer, one of the youngest people to ever be sworn in as a city police officer in Illinois history. Bernabei then went on to become Spring Valley’s Chief of Police before serving Peru.
