Pets Perish in Streator House Fire Tuesday Afternoon

STREATOR – No injuries were reported in a fire at a home in Streator on Tuesday, however pets did perish. According to the Streator Fire Department, they were called around 3:30 p.m. for a report of smoke coming from the roof of a home in the 700 block of West Grant Street. According to authorities the residents, a family of four, were able to escape. The home reportedly sustained smoke damage throughout and extensive fire damage in the basement. The fire department said late Tuesday that the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross. Hamsters owned by the family perished in the smoke filled home. The cause of the fire has been deemed accidental by the Streator Fire Department, Streator Police Department, and the Office of the Illinois State Fire Marshal.
