Plans in the works for 135 acres of unrestored land in Ottawa

OTTAWA – The latest plan for over 130 acres of land along the Illinois River in Ottawa includes wetland restoration and public recreation. City Mayor Dan Aussem says they support the Conservation Foundations’ efforts to purchase the property, but restoring the 135-acre addition won’t be as easy as a former project was the Dayton Bluffs Preserve.

Conservation Foundation CEO and President Brook McDonald say the latest vision includes a nature area for hiking and access to the Illinois River. 45 acres of the property are planned for a new soccer complex to be managed by the Ottawa Soccer Club. McDonald says the foundation is hopeful and committed to purchasing the bulk of the property.
