MENDOTA – Seneca Foods has purchased some of the property of the former Del Monte production facility in Mendota.   LaSalle County property tax information shows the New York based company as the current owner of portions of the vegetable canning plant that has been in the city since 1949.   Seneca Foods has a number of facilities throughout the United States and owns brands such as Libby’s, Aunt Nellie’s, and Green Valley.  In August of 2019 it was announced that Del Monte would close the 431 acre facility on the East side of Mendota.  The farm shop and adjacent field on East 4th road are also shown to have been purchased by Seneca, but one warehouse and the lagoons are still listed as Del Monte property.   No plans on the future of the complex has been released by Seneca Foods, however, they did purchase other former Del Monte production locations in Wisconsin and Minnesota.
